Anne Marie Huarte is a seasoned appellate advocate, having represented clients in civil appeals and writs in state and federal appellate courts for more than 25 years.

Recently, Anne prevailed by obtaining reversals on behalf of her clients in O’Malley v. Hospitality Staffing (2018) 20 Cal.App.5th 21, and also in Miglas v. AAble, Inc. (2018) B276462, both while working for Biren Law Group. In a landmark published case, Anne represented multiple wrongful death clients on appeal, single-handedly wrote all briefs, and won reversal in Butler v. Bell Helicopter (2003) 109 Cal.App.4th 1073. In Butler, Anne made law in aviation manufacturing to protect consumers. Other wins for clients include reversals in Guilford [contract, post-trial, remanded with instructions to award damages], Spohn [real estate contract], and Dacanay [affirming denial of attorney’s fees], plus many others in areas of personal injury, employment, attorney fees, and breach of contract.

Anne regularly consults with trial lawyers and their clients to help them anticipate appellate issues and provides strategic advice. She is also expert in law and motion practice at the trial court level.

Previously, Anne was head of Appellate Litigation for Magana, Cathcart & McCarthy and also for Biren Law Group. Before that, she practiced civil litigation and handled appeals for Girardi & Keese.

Independently, Anne has been chief appellate counsel in more than 50 appeals for various clients, and was recognized as a Southern California Super Lawyer Rising Star for appellate law.

Anne is published in The Advocate Magazine and in American Trial Lawyers Association Annual Convention Aviation Law Section Journal, as well as in the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Assoc. Journal, and the Northwest Aviation Law and Insurance Seminar Journal. She is also published in The Criterion literary journal. She has helped research and write a policy brief for the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Border Security and Immigration (April 2018).

Anne graduated from Loyola Law School with Honors at Entrance, and Loyola Marymount University, Cum Laude, in the Honors Program. She is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in California as well as in the federal district of NY, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Her Pro Bono Legal Work includes Foster Family Adoption through Public Counsel and Loyola Law School, and the Advocate for the Homeless Program. She is a Contributor to the Venice Family Clinic.

She serves on the Executive Board of Appellate Courts Committee LACBA, and is a member of the Culver Marina Bar Association.
